Annalee presents at US DOHaD conference and receives Oustanding Trainee Abstract Award

Annalee Furst presents her work "Gestational Diabetes is Associated with Differences in HMO Concentrations" at the 2022 US DOHaD conference in Minneapolis, MN, and receives an Outstanding Trainee Abstract Award. The work is a collaboration with Dr. Ellen Demerath at the University of Minnesota and Dr. David Fields at the University of Oklahoma.

A warm welcome to Meghana Akkati, a new Undergraduate Student Trainee in the Bode lab!

 

Meghana is a second-year human bio major at UCSD on the pre med track. She is originally from Fremont in the Bay Area. She has previously done research in a few labs and is looking forward to learn more about the field of pediatrics and gain more lab experience. Meghana loves to try new foods, cook, dance and travel. She is excited to explore San Diego, especially the beaches and good food!

Bode Lab welcomes Nitya Yerabandi as Undergraduate Student Trainee

A warm welcome to Nitya Yerabandi, a new Undergraduate Student Trainee in the Bode lab!

 

Nitya is a freshman at UC San Diego with a major in Human Biology. She has lived in San Diego for the past 14 years and went to Del Norte High School in 4S Ranch. Nitya says that science has always been her favorite subject growing up. She already started doing some research in high school with a UC San Diego team of neuroscientists, but is looking forward to gaining wet lab experience as well.

Amita is a first-year Cognitive Science major at UC San Diego and interested in pediatrics, hoping to pursue a career as a pediatrician in the future. Amita was born and raised in San Diego and loves exploring our beautiful city. She also loves to cook and bake and spends a lot of time outdoors in the San Diego sun.

Kamand is an undergraduate Human Biology major at UC San Diego Revelle college graduating this spring. Kamand used to work as a phlebotomist and a lab tech at COVID sites during the pandemic and is planning on working with our lab for 1-2 years to gain research experience.

Welcome to Breanna Ford, the most recent addition to our team!

 

Breanna is currently a third year undergraduate majoring in Biochemistry/Chemistry and minoring in Bioethics and General Biology. She is originally from Albuquerque, NM, but has been in San Diego and Orange County for the last three years. In her spare time Bre enjoys playing tennis, watching comedies, and taking care of her collection of tropical houseplants.

Kristy Sejane, Staff Research Associate in the Bode lab, has been selected to participate in this year's GlycoBootcamp.

 

The two-week course is organized by the UC San Diego Glycobiology Research and Training Center (GRTC).

 

The course format is a mix of tutorials and hands-on lab work.

Congratulations to our collaborator Simone Renwick for being selected to attend and present at ISAPP meeting in Spain

Congratulations to our collaborator Simone Renwick, PhD Candidate in Dr. Emma Allen-Vercoe's lab at the University of Guelph, for being selected as one of twenty trainees invited to attend and present at ISAPP 2022 in Barcelona, Spain this June!

 

Simone will present her work "Screening the prebiotic effects of human milk oligosaccharides on 330 bacterial strains derived from the infant gut microbiota" with high-throughput HMO glycoprofiling performed by Annalee Furst in our lab.

Welcome to Letty Rose as our Administrative and Fiscal Coordinator. Letty has her degree in Communication from Point Loma Nazarene University. She has over 10 years experience in a variety of administrative positions including supervisory roles. She comes from San Diego State University and has worked with the City of San Diego. Letty enjoys spending time with her family strolling the beach and exploring the Safari Park with her son.
